Job Description

Orthopedic Institute is currently recruiting for a full time Pedorthist in our PT & Sports Medicine Department. This individual will focus on the management and treatment of conditions of the foot, ankle, and lower extremities requiring fitting, fabricating, and adjusting of pedorthic devices. In consultation with medical staff, the pedorthist determines optimal treatment plan and selects appropriate foot orthoses and pedorthic footwear.

Orthopedic Institute has been serving the region for over 40 years offering excellent orthopedic care across South Dakota, Western Minnesota, and Western Iowa. Our history has been marked by partnerships built on shared values and vision. We have recently added physicians to strengthen our position as an independent practice.  We focus solely on exceptional orthopedic care to broaden the reach and impact in this region. Our provider team has grown to include 16 orthopedic surgeons, two pain medicine physicians, one physiatrist, and 19 physician assistants/nurse practitioners and over 215 employees. We currently have locations in Sioux Falls, Brookings, Mitchell and Yankton and numerous outreach locations in the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Skillfully applies knowledge of tools and machines in orthotic lab to fabricate orthosis. Includes modification, component selection, vac-forming, and the finishing process.
  • Provide follow-up care with repair and modification of orthotics as needed. Clinical decisions are based on sound educational principals and knowledge of materials required for proper fabrication.
  • Evaluates patients with physical disabilities, disease or deformity for appropriate orthotic treatment.

  • Assures continuation of therapeutic plan by instructing patients on proper use of assistive equipment and orthotics.
  • Communicates well with patients regarding proper footwear selection for work, daily use, athletic participation. The evaluation also includes instruction on particular footwear to avoid.?

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from a NCCA accredited Pedorthic program.
  • Licensed in the State of South Dakota required.
  • One year as a pedorthist preferred
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills. Thorough knowledge of Pedorthic principles and practices. Working knowledge of computer programs.
